Brief
Bring Three Mobile’s “Let Fun In” campaign to life through a playful, unexpected public experience that encouraged people to stop, interact and have fun. The activation needed to work in a busy central London location, feel unmistakably Three, generate engaging social content, and be designed, built and delivered within a tight turnaround.
The Experience
Working with Three and DJ Woody Cook, we designed and built Raving Slabs, a giant, interactive musical soundboard transforming an ordinary stretch of pavement outside St Paul’s into a playable musical experience.
Made up of 18 interactive slabs, each playing a different layer of music, the experience allowed passers-by to create tracks simply by stepping, dancing and moving across the installation. The music was curated with Woody Cook to create a playful, energetic soundscape that encouraged spontaneous participation.
The experience was designed to be instantly understandable and genuinely fun, while bringing Three’s bold, energetic brand personality into the physical environment.
Technology & Approach
With a very tight turnaround, our team took the experience from design and programming through to physical build and installation, creating a robust mobile system capable of operating throughout a full day in a busy public space.
As the activation was taking place outdoors in a busy central London location, the physical build had to be robust enough to withstand unpredictable weather and constant interaction, while remaining portable and practical to install and remove.
The experience was also designed with social capture in mind, creating a visually distinctive and highly shareable activation that could live beyond the physical event.
Outcome
Raving Slabs transformed the pavement at One New Change, outside St Paul’s, into a spontaneous musical playground — giving commuters and passers-by a chance to Let Fun In through music, movement and play.
The one-day activation became a highly visible expression of Three’s campaign, combining physical interaction, music and technology to create an experience designed to be enjoyed in the moment and shared beyond the installation.
The activation was supported by national media coverage, including The Mirror, while Three described Raving Slabs as a giant, first-of-its-kind interactive soundboard created to disrupt the mundanity of everyday life.
